UkrainianRefugeesReceiveEssentialSupport at Safe Space in Palanca Border
The Safe Space in the neutral zone of the Palanca border, located in the Ștefan Vodă district and managed by the Homecare Association in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), continues to provide vital support to Ukrainian refugees. Every week, new refugees, whether staying in Moldova or transiting to Romania or other European destinations, arrive at this assistance center.
At the Safe Space, refugees receive specialized psychological counseling on essential issues such as gender equality, protection from gender-based violence, access to essential health services, and support in cases of gender violence. Psychological and emotional assistance is also provided when needed.
Elena, a 20-year-old mother of two children aged 2 years and 8 months, is one of the many Ukrainian refugees who crossed the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. Visibly distressed by her husband’s mobilization to war and the lack of family support, Elena arrived in Moldova seeking safety for herself and her children.
Elena received crucial information about the legal forms of stay in Moldova, including temporary protection, conditions for refugee financial aid, and access to transport, accommodation, and urgent medical services. She was also provided with a hygiene kit tailored to her needs. Grateful for the psychological support and hygiene kit offered by the Safe Space in Palanca, Elena was also referred to the Green Line for help in finding secure accommodation.
This activity is part of the “Improving Access to Essential Health and Protection Services for Refugees from Ukraine and Host Communities” program, supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova) in Moldova and funded by the European Union.
