Diplomatic Visit to Safe Space Bălți: British Ambassadors Support Ukrainian Refugees in Moldova

The British Ambassadors to the Republic of Moldova, Fern Horine, and to Ukraine, Martin Harris, visited the Safe Space UNFPA / Homecare office at the community center in Bălți, where they met with a group of Ukrainian refugees and the office staff. The purpose of the visit was to learn how the refugees are supported by the Safe Space employees.
The Ukrainian refugees shared details about the individual consultations they received, highlighting how these sessions have greatly helped them cope with the trauma caused by the conflict. Among the topics discussed were the challenges faced by women and children affected by the war.
Martin Harris spoke about the UK’s commitment to refugees, stating: “We have visited Ukrainian refugee families and children in Moldova and the projects we support to assist them. We also back safe spaces where children can continue their online studies at Ukrainian schools, staying connected to their homeland. All these initiatives help families rebuild their lives and maintain hope for the future.”
Fern Horine emphasized the importance of British support: “Considering that over a million Ukrainians have sought refuge in Moldova since the beginning of the invasion, the United Kingdom is focused on meeting their basic needs, such as psychosocial support, medical assistance, and shelter. The UK stands with both Moldova and Ukraine, and we thank the citizens, government, and our partners for all the help provided to the refugees.”
The Safe Space staff presented a progress report, and the ambassadors engaged in discussions with the refugees and the support team in a warm and open atmosphere. Refugees had the opportunity to share their own experiences and talk about the difficulties they face in their daily lives.
